University Baptist Church (Strike HQ), on University Ave & 13th St., Dinkytown

U workers face an uphill battle to win a fair contract from the administration, and student solidarity will be absolutely crucial. We need a big turnout this for this meeting, so please come and bring along your friends (the spirit of solidarity is infectious!). We'll hear from strikers about the issues and map out an ambitious, rapid action plan to force Bruininks back to the negotiating table. Join us and help make this powerful strike movement a turning point at the U of M!

On September 8th, there will be a People's Conference held in support of striking AFSCME workers and all those struggling for a more democratic university. The conference will be held from 1-7pm at U Baptist Church following the 10am UofM Labor and Community Strike Support Meeting. All are welcome to attend and snacks will be provided.

Each afternoon 1:30-3:00, there will be a screening of a film about the 2003 clerical workers' strike, followed by a panel discussion with 2003 strike veterans and supporters. Come when you may, leave when you must, bring your class, bring your professor!

We will be silent for one half hour, followed by a minute of “noise,” because we are struck speechless by the administration’s refusal to offer the workers a fair, living-wage contract and because of the continuing attacks on academic freedom and free speech that they are waging against supporters of the strike.
